Really important conversation here and great distinctions. Why we tend to pick and choose the “better” sins is beyond me. I was working for a church where the pastor was debating whether or not to implement a no-drinking rule for staff members under the age of 26 (because their frontal lobe isn’t fully developed yet so they don’t know how to control their impulses, but apparently anyone older than 26 has completely mastered the need for self-control and couldn’t possibly drink excessively).
The conversation died out fairly quickly as we started questioning where they will be drawing the line on how often they bring in donuts to meetings or offer pizza as the lunch for a gathering.
